about

“Migration Vol. 1” is the first installment of a three-part release that will chronicle Mission South as they set out on the road to becoming a full-time band. After the three childhood friends decided on separate universities after high school, the band’s future was limited to the summers in between school years.

This first installment showcases some of the songs written during these summer reunions and reveals the band’s adoption of heavier blues and rock influences. Now in their final year of college, the members of Mission South plan on pursuing the group full time upon graduation: a journey the “Migration” records aim to capture in full.

Welcome to Volume One.

Track Name: Kerosene
I could not believe my ears
When you became my greatest fear
When you set fire to your promises
Lips dripping with kerosene
And you set fire to your promises
But your smoke brings no tears
So I will carry on like I've been doing for years

I could not believe your words
I pretended like I always heard
I pretended I could not tell up from down
Sometimes only pleasure's on my mind so
I pretended I could not tell up from down
But all I know is your fear
So I will carry on like I've been doing for years

I could not believe the time
I told you that I'd make you mine
I told you we would throw it all to the wind
And you ripped my future down girl
And you threw it all to the wind
I told you we could leave this life behind
Those suburban dreamers and their one track minds
By morning we could reach the boarder line
But you said "Boy that's your dream not mine"
And you burned me to the ground
Here I stand in ashes I'm a new man

But now tomorrow's here
So I will carry on like I've been doing for years
Track Name: detroitgetaway
Used to be my everyday dream
My smile deep inside
Rocks tap on your window pain
Never thought it would crack
Used to lock lips in the rain
Cuz you had red carpet dreams
Now my, now my smiles
Are few and far between

*chorus*:
Want you to go away
On your own
Want you to go away
And rest your weary bones
And I will find
All in time
My way home

Used to be my everyday dream
The pictures on my wall
I pinned up so hard my fingers bled
Never thought they would fall
The night the old barn finally burned down
We could barely the smoke
(Ashes on the ground)
Believe I know it takes two to step on toes
But I can't keep on dancing this slow

*chorus*

I'm half a man I used to try
No longer will I need my eyes
When all is gone
And nothing's in sight
I can try to equalize
All that you do and all that you say
When time is gone
And nothing is right

*chorus*
Track Name: Just A Lie
I found my crazy
Where I left it last
Down in that old town
She tapped me on the back
She said are you back for more
Or did you need a friend
She grabbed hold of my hand
Said "I'm gonna teach you to pretend
There's no end in sight."
When I see her I think that she just might

*chorus*

I say sometimes
My mind lies in the West
Nestled in between the words inside my chest
And sometimes
I don't try my best
But I tell you this
I find my strength in your weakness

I found my virtue
Naked in the heat
Broken and confused
But sacred as can be
He said why did you leave me here
I thought I was your friend
I gave him my hand
Said me and you gonna make amends
It's all black and white
But when he sees me he knows I'm just a lie

*chorus*

You can fall upon your fire
Where nothing's wrong and nothing's right
Then in time
You will find
I'll find my way

*chorus*

I find my peace
In your sweet kiss
Track Name: Patagonia
You always greeted me with a smile
And we were wild
Singing all the songs that came into our heads
And I was a child
Lost once more
In the rain that first brought me to your front door

It was
All that I need
Eyes like frozen lakes
And hips like valleys lined with snow
It was
Everything I see
In technicolor dreaming
And I can feel you breathing

*chorus*
Stripped up in your cause
Locked up in your jaws
Will you guide me (x2)

And I would yes I would
Lay myself down on your solid ground
And I would
Give up all I own
Just to come back home

You always willed me on through the miles
And we were strong
With our heads high as we marched into the storm
And you told me tales
About the time
Before the ships that came with one thing on their minds

It was
All that I need
Hills that shine like gold
And treetops taller than tiptoes
It was
Everything I see
In technicolor dreaming
And I can feel you breathing

*chorus*

When I'm in my time of need
Know your beauty's all I see
And I go
I will go back to you
Track Name: Helicopters
I will fight
As if I drive
On the wrong side
No headlights
I won't cry
When they tell me I
Am a young man
On borrowed time

*chorus*
Run on the plains
Lungs filled with battle cries
Wade in the water
To find where your freedom lies
Run on the plains
Under blood red skies
And I will go wade in the water
And watch my reflection die

And I will find you
I will find you

I will try
Eye for an eye
'Till I go blind
See no light shine
They will try
To apologize
To the widowed wife
That never lost her sight

*chorus*

You will never know my sacrifice
You will never taste my pride
You will never feel my fall from grace
I don't think you're on my side
(x2: Tell me are you on my side)

*chorus*

I will sing from your highest highs
Your lowest lows
Drink from your cup until I overflow
I will fall

I will find you
I will go there
I will find you
